It is a good idea to try high doses of vitamin C, don't worry about intoxication, excess vitamin C is excreted in the urine. Please read the remedies below to help you overcome this problem:

Home remedies for colds #1: Take Vitamin C and Zinc lozenges this can help stop the cold from going through the entire process. NSI Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids, Quercetin, Green Tea, L-Lysine and L-Proline -- 240 Capsules

Home remedies for colds #2: Take Echinacea and goldenseal extracts. These boost the immune system. Nature's Answer Echinacea & Goldenseal -- 2 fl oz

Vitamin C and Echinacea will help considerably. Ginger has also been known to help with cold and flu symptoms as well as the digestion of chilli's and spices.

Air conditioning has been long considered to result in higher amounts of colds and flus as is uses reused or recirculated air, which includes all those dreaded germs.

I would be cautious of high doses of vitamin C. It can actually cause kidney stones. Take the recommended suggested dose of Vitamin C and try to move your desk if you're under an air conditioning unit.

I had the same problem last summer, and I'm sure it was because of my AC. I would recommend taking the suggested daily dose of Vitamin C as others have said. When fall came, I started taking Vitamin C daily because I didn't want to get sick in the winter. I have not been sick yet, so I'm sure it's working. The true test will be this summer, but so far so good!
